Farm Day is a fun educational field trip presented at the fairgrounds every spring in
May. The program is offered to teachers and students free of charge. The Farm Day is
designed to support California State Standards for third grade curriculum.
All public and private schools in El Dorado County that have third grade classes receive
a “Save the Date” notice in the fall, and applications are received on a first come, first
served basis during the winter. Teacher in-service training is mandatory for all new
teachers joining this program and those sessions are scheduled in the early spring.
Hosted by the El Dorado County Ag in the Classroom Corporation, our major event
partners include the El Dorado County Fair Association, University of California
Cooperative Extension, and El Dorado County Office of Education. This event is solely
supported by donations from our generous, local sponsors.
On Farm Day we take over the fairgrounds and provide demonstrations and exhibits
that teach the students how agriculture affects their lives. Whether it is a logging
demonstration, or a dairy cow presentation, the students have fun learning about
animals and crops. The exhibits are interactive and classrooms get the opportunity to
experience six “class periods” of varied agricultural experiences.

It takes a lot of effort to put on a day like this with 95% of the work done by volunteers.
If you are interested in being a presenter, helping on event day, or if you want to bring
your third grade class this coming spring, please keep an eye on this website for your opportunity to
apply.
